The real estate market in New York is unlike any other in the United States in many ways. One of the biggest differences between New York and other states is that apartments in NY are either condos or co-ops. In the 2014 American Community Survey, it is shown that nearly half of the housing in NY is in large apartments. But even though co-ops outnumber condos in NY – most estimates say about 85% are co-ops – more condos are on the active market at any given moment.
